  • How can I apply for a vacancy?
    Our vacancies are posted on the recruitment homepage. There is an apply button on the advert of each vacancy.

    You can also search for vacancies using the search mechanism on the left-hand page of the homepage.
  • How can I keep up to date with new vacancies?
    You can register online to receive regular vacancy alerts. You can unsubscribe from alerts at anytime.

  • How will I benefit from registering my details?
    By registering your details, you will be able to maintain and update your details quickly.

    You will be able to:
    - Search and apply for jobs online
    - Receive new vacancies sent directly to you with jobs by email
    - Add vacancies to your jobs basket to apply for later
    - Receive reminders about closing dates for applications you’ve not yet completed
    - Save your application form at any stage and complete it later
    - Store your application online to save time filling in forms
    - Follow your job applications progress online
    - Keep track of your interview dates and details

    Remember, your account only remains live for 12 months from the date you first registered. If you wish to submit an application after this time, you will need to register again.

    You will also be able to:

    - Search and apply for jobs online
    - Receive new vacancies sent directly to you with Jobs-by-email
    - Add vacancies to your Jobs basket to apply for later
    - Receive reminders about closing dates for applications you've not yet completed
    - Save your application form at any stage and complete it later

  • How often are new vacancies published on the site?
    Vacancies are uploaded on a regular basis. If you have registered to receive vacancy alerts, you will be notified as soon as a vacancy matching your requirements is placed.
  • I don’t have a computer at home or at work, is there anywhere else I can register and apply online?
    Our recruitment system can be accessed through a computer or a tablet or Ipad. You can also access the system on your mobile phone.

    If you don’t have access to the Internet from any of these routes, you could ask a relative or a friend if you can use their computer for your job search.

    Stafford Borough Council also have a public access computer available for use in their reception area. You can also use your own email account on a computer at your local library or other local facilities. If in doubt, contact the HR Services team at Stafford on 01785619222, or 01543464203 at Cannock.     Free email accounts can be set up through providers such as www.yahoo.co.uk, www.google.com www.gmail.com or www.hotmail.com. Just log onto their websites and follow the instructions.
  • I have forgotten my account password - what do I do?
    On the login page click on the window that says ‘Forgotten your password?’ You will be asked to enter your email address and submit these details. You should then log onto your e-mail account to retrieve your password reset link.
  • Will the system log me out automatically
    As you are completing your online application form, please bear in mind that our system has automatic time-outs built in. You will be logged out of the system after 45 minutes of inactivity (ie not clicking on links or 'save and exit' buttons on the sections of the application form) and you may lose information which has not been saved. Therefore, please save your information regularly by clicking 'save and exit'.

    We also recommend that you compose your answers to longer questions, (ie those with free text areas) off-line in a word processing package and then copy and paste your answers into the form. This ensures that you can spell check your text and that you have a backup version of your answers.
  • The vacancy I’d like to apply for has a pre-screening questions, what is this and what is it used for?
    Pre-screening questions are a useful tool for both applicants and recruiting managers to ensure that you fulfil essential criteria of the role, before completing your application in full.

    Examples of pre-screening questions may be the need to hold a specific type of driving licence, have a certificate of membership of a particular professional body or have a particular qualification specific to the vacancy.

  • Is there a limited time for filling in an application form online?
    As long as you complete and submit your application by the closing time on the closing date of the position there is no limit to how long you take to fill in your application. You can therefore take your time to complete the application form, save it and go back to finish it at your leisure.
  • How can I tell which questions within the application form are mandatory?
    Mandatory questions are marked with an asterisk.
  • Can I print off my application form to keep a copy for myself?
    Yes, you can print out a summary once you have fully completed any part (or all) of the application form.
  • How long will it take to process my application for a vacancy?
    After submitting your application, you will receive an acknowledgement email. Your application will be considered as soon as possible following submission. If you are successful, you will be invited for an interview, however, the length of this process is dependent on the job you have applied for.
  • How long will my details remain on record?
    In compliance with Data Protection legislation, your details will remain on record for 12 months after which they will be deleted.

    You can delete your data at any stage of the recruitment process through your account.

  • Why do I have to sign up to the terms and conditions again?
    To comply with Data Protection legislation applicants will be asked to review and recommit to the site terms and conditions every 90 days. You will only receive this notice while your account is active, i.e. within 12 months from the date you registered.

    If you no longer agree to the terms and conditions, you can delete your data at anytime through logging onto your account.
  • How often are new vacancies advertised on the site?
    New vacancies are advertised on the site on a regular basis. It is worth visiting the site frequently to make sure that you don’t miss out on any new vacancy opportunities. Alternatively, you can register for specific vacancy inserts.
  • How will you keep in touch with me?
    If you have applied online and have included your email, address and contact telephone numbers we will use one or all of these routes. If you have applied via another method, then it will depend on the information provided. During the application process you will receive regular status updates. Alternatively, you can log into your personal account and view the documentation relating to your application.
  • How will I find out whether my application has been successful?
    We aim (but cannot always guarantee) to contact applicants who have been successful at the shortlisting stage within 2 weeks of the closing date, so keep an eye out! We will also send vacancy status updates to all candidates, updating you on the status of your application. Alternatively, you can also log into your personal account and view any documentation relating to your application.
  • What other methods can I use to apply for a vacancy?
    Wherever possible, we would like applications to be made online. However, if you are unable to do this or experience difficulty in using the online method, we will be able to provide you with a hard copy version of the application form.   • User IDs and passwords
    Your email address will be your user ID and you will be asked to supply a password. It is important that you do not lose or forget these as you will need them to access your application form. Internal applicants are kindly asked to refrain from using their work email to apply for vacancies.

    In order to allow you as much flexibility as possible, you can revisit your form as many times as you need to before submitting it. It is not necessary to complete the application form in one visit.

    You will be asked to change your password every 30 days. This is for security purposes and in line with good practice. If, at anytime you wish to change your password, click on the ‘change password’ link on the screen.
  • What can I do to strengthen my Application?
    In order to allow your application the greatest opportunity of success please ensure that you submit all supporting information as part of your application, providing us with as much detail about your relevant skills, qualifications and experience as possible. Please also make use of the Guidance Notes which we have put together to help you complete an application form.

  • I have not been offered an interview, can I get feedback on my application?
    If you would like feedback on your application form, please contact HR Services giving the name and details of the vacancy you applied for. We will arrange for the relevant manager to contact you: humanresources@staffordbc.gov.uk / humanresources@cannockchasedc.gov.uk.
  • Do you accept CVs?
    No, unfortunately we do not accept CVs as we believe all of our applications should be viewed equally on our application form.

  • If I am unsuccessful can I apply again?
    If you are unsuccessful in your application at either the shortlisting or interview stage it does not mean you can’t apply for a vacancy again (unless stated on the advert). However, we would advise that we take on board any feedback you have received on a previous application or interview before applying for the new role.
